Coursera is possibly the most academically thorough service when it comes to online coding courses. It was founded by Stanford professors who work with universities and other organisations to offer online courses, specialisations, and degrees in a variety of subjects.
No discussion of online coding courses would be complete without a mention of Pluralsight. Following an acquisition spree, it now offers the world's biggest online training library. Of all the tools we dug into, PluralSight's Code School was one of the best. Not only does the site look great, but it offers quality content and a great student experience. You can follow a 'path', which will guide you through a succession of different courses, or you can opt for a single course on its own.
The videos are quirky and fun in an after-school special kind of way, and offer a refreshing break from typically dry video tutorials. It's like watching Bill Nye explain things, which is to say, comforting. After viewing a video, you work on your own tasks — relating back to the video if required. If you get really stuck you can 'buy' answers with points you've earned from other classes.
If you're looking to splash a few bucks on a learning tool, we would recommend spending your money here. Skillcrush is the option here that most closely resembles an actual curriculum in a classroom setting. Users enroll in their chosen three-month 'blueprint' — a bundle of three courses that build on each other. Skillcrush has expanded its offerings and there are now eight blueprints to choose from, including frontend development, visual design, web development, and UX the newest course. Alternatively, you can embark on a nine-month bumper programme dedicated to helping you break into tech.
Once enrolled, students have access to not only a classroom setting chat forum with their fellow students, but also to office hours and one-on-one time with their instructor. Skillcrush is currently also offering a free day coding bootcamp. Udacity offers robust guides to many different topics, with seriously advanced courses on everything from robotics to design theories in everyday life. All courses are old and were the worst looking and the worst sounding courses I've ever taken.
Waste of time waste of money! Once you happily buy it, you discover that its all empty promises. Just a cheap video or someone telling you how to apply, what books to buy and the thousands of hours experience you need to have before you apply?!? Oh and of course, no refund, even the same day! Bad Bad for Business Insider to even promote these scammers! I feel so stupid for paying this company before reading reviews. They claimed to provide all materials.
This was a flat out lie. Do not give them your business. Bought one of there services 3 months ago and still have never recieved it and you cannot get a refund you cannot get ahold of anyone. I am thinking about taking taking them to court do not buy anything from the scammers what a rip off company. Very disappointed in StackSocial. Purchased a course program with physical elements. The package never arrived and customer support has been terrible.
It has been nearly 6 months and they have done nothing despite me opening 3 tickets. Medicore at best. The problem is that stackskills don't update their instructions on how to use these tools! They are very out of date and the tutorials on how to install and access these tools are meaningless.
So users are forced to fiddling around with these tools to try to get them to work to practice SQL! It's a HUGE waste of time! I'm dumping this crap and trying courseacademy. Thumbs down. When I emailed them to see what happened, they barely answered my question. Then I asked for a refund and they ignored me. One of the courses in the package I bought has no content in it.
Technical support is ignoring me and they are refusing to give me a refund, even though I never received the product I paid for. I bought the Excel course recently - well paced and scaffold-ed course. I know there are free courses available however, having experts lead your through a course makes you aware of gaps in your knowledge; something you are not able to achieve by searching for ad hoc components on you tube.
I have never had an issue. I do have to mention I bought the course trough deals. Great marketing! Huge red flag when co. No refunds when you buy a course no previews of course terrible content and highly overvalues courses. Buyer beware.
Online Learning Platforms – 5 Marketplace Comparisons
I purchased some courses only to find no content was provided.Online learning platform solutions can be a confusing market space to navigate as an online course instructor.
Given the brand recognition and market share Udemy boasts, it may be hard to figure out what other online course marketplaces exist and how they are different.
To help guide your decision as an online course creator, Teachinguide has put together a summary comparison of Udemy vs. Online learning platforms which operate as a marketplace differ in many aspects — audience, course formats, pricing, compensation models, promotions, and more.
We omitted online learning sites such as Diversity Builder which does not offer a marketplace. These are all important factors to consider before enrolling as an instructor on an online course platform.
Udemy is well known to Teachinguide users and readers and just about everyone else! It is a pure online course marketplace model that has evolved over the last few years. Udemy is increasingly known for being the best place for new instructors to test and home their online teaching skills. Out of all the online learning platforms compared it offers the biggest marketing power, presenting an easy way to earn a passive and much larger income teaching online.
Skillshare is the online course platform that is the closest comparison to Udemy. Instructors are paid based on minutes viewed, not a fixed course price. This can be useful for instructors who are just getting started teaching online. Skillshare has fewer courses and students than Udemy. This is not necessarily a bad thing if it means higher quality classes and more visibility for instructors.

As an instructor, the primary difference is the payout scheme. Skill Success is a Udemy-like platform with essentially the same revenue share policies. However, besides operating on a much smaller scale it differs from Udemy in several ways.
This online learning platform offers students a subscription model. For all these reasons, it is unclear why Skill Success would be a better alternative to Udemy or Skillshare. Out of the 5 online learning platforms compared, Coggno is the only one that is entirely focused on business customers.
It is an online training marketplace and learning management system LMS that offers a service to connect content developers, HR organizations, and employees who need training.
With Coggno, you can create courses or upload your existing course content. You also have the option to deliver your courses privately or to distribute them through the Coggno online course marketplace. If you are an experienced professional or trainer, Coggno is a very interesting alternative because it enables organizations to use a branded version of the Coggno platform for free to offer courses to their target audience, creating more of a B2B marketplace.
Coggno also takes a percentage of sales. This varies depending on the price of the course and how it is sold. But for this you also get a dedicated domain and a website.
You can also opt-in to sell through thousands of syndicated websites. This course targeted toward students who want to start learning about information security but they don't know from where to start, the course is covering basic security fundamentals, threats and vulnerabilities, Network security, Host and application securityalso the course is covering topics like Risk Management and Business continuity planning.
